Teachers! The Museum now has two educational classes that can be done in conjunction with your lessons!
“Steel Town” is directed primarily for 2nd and 3rd-grade students but can be modified to be used with other grade levels. It does require access to “Steel Town” by Jonah Winter and illustrated by Terry Widener. The museum has copies for loan if needed.
“Museum in a Box” is a larger more detailed lesson with two different sections, “The Science of Steelmaking” and “History and People of WNY Steel.” This lesson is primarily for 4th grade and up and works with an artifact kit that you borrow from the museum.
Please contact the museum at email@example.com and use SPM Lesson in your subject line or call the museum at 716-821-9361 if you would like to use these lessons.
If a presentation is more your style the Steel Plant Museum also has “SPM on the Road” a presentation given by one of our Board Members and former steelworkers about the steel making process and the history of steel in WNY.
Please contact the museum at firstname.lastname@example.org and use SPM on the Road in your subject line or call the museum at 716-821-9361 if you would like to book a presentation.
We also have our YouTube page! It is filled with useful videos about the steel industry in Buffalo.
